Kingdom Upside Down – Following Jesus Beyond Our Agendas
📖 Matthew 21:1-11 | Zechariah 9:9-10 | Psalm 33:16-18 | John 18:36
Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey—not to win political power or meet the crowd’s expectations, but to reveal a kingdom like no other. In this Palm Sunday message, we explore how Jesus flips our ideas of power, leadership, and salvation. He doesn’t come to take sides—but to take over, with love.
🎙️ Discover:
• Why the crowd’s “Hosanna!” turned into “Crucify Him!”
• How we still try to shape Jesus into our image
• What it really means to follow a King who chooses humility over hype
This message invites you to lay down your agenda and follow the Servant King who turns the world—and our hearts—upside down.
Reflection Questions:
1. What expectations have I placed on Jesus that reflect my desires more than His will?
2. How do I respond when Jesus doesn’t meet my expectations?
3. Have I ever tried to fit Jesus into my political, cultural, or personal agenda? In what ways?
4. How do the Scriptures—Zechariah 9:9-10, Psalm 33:16-18, and John 18:36—shape your understanding of the kind of King Jesus is and the nature of His kingdom? What stands out to you about how He uses power and what it means to follow a kingdom “not of this world”?
5. What might change in my daily life if I chose to serve rather than dominate, give rather than accumulate, love rather than retaliate, and surrender rather than control?
6. If someone watched my life, what kind of kingdom would they see me serving?
Closing Prayer
Jesus,
You came in humility, not to claim a throne of power but to carry a cross of love.
I confess that I often want You to fit my expectations,
to serve my plans, and to support my agenda.
But You are not a King I can control.
You call me to follow You—not for comfort or control,
but for transformation through surrender.
So today, I lay down my assumptions.
I release my need to be right, to win, or to lead on my own terms.
Teach me to serve instead of dominate,
to give instead of grasp,
to love instead of retaliate,
and to surrender instead of control.
Help me live as a citizen of Your kingdom—
a kingdom not of this world.
Give me eyes to see You clearly,
a heart to trust You fully,
and a life that reflects Your self-giving love.
Amen.
