Reflection Questions: “Where Your Treasure Is: The Heart’s True Compass” (Matt 6:19-21)
1. Anxiety Audit: What keeps you awake at 3 AM worrying? What does this reveal about where you’re placing your ultimate trust?
2. Joy Inventory: When did you last find yourself genuinely excited or energized? What was it about—an achievement, a possession, a relationship, or a moment of beauty? What does this tell you about your treasure?
3. Resource Flow: Look at your bank statements, calendar, and energy levels over the past month. Where do your time, money, and emotional investment naturally flow? Are you surprised by any patterns?
4. Loss Test: What would devastate you most to lose tomorrow—your health, your savings, your reputation, your relationships, or your sense of God’s presence? Your answer reveals what you’re actually depending on for security.
5. Future Fantasy: How much of your peace depends on things going according to your plans (health staying stable, markets performing, relationships staying strong)? What happens to your sense of security when you can’t control these outcomes?
6. Honest Conversation: What would it look like to have a completely honest conversation with God about where your treasure really lies? What would you confess? What would you ask for?
7. Father’s Heart: How does understanding God as a generous Father who delights in giving good gifts change how you approach prayer, decisions, and daily life?
Closing Prayer
Gracious Father,
I come before You with a heart that is often divided, treasuring things that rust and fade while overlooking the gifts You place right before me. Please forgive me for the anxiety I’ve carried, trying to secure futures I cannot control. Thank You for being a good Father—One who knows my needs before I ask, who delights in giving good gifts, and who invites me to find my security not in my circumstances but in Your unchanging love. For the times I have built my security on shaky foundations, grant me the courage to transfer my trust to You. I place my future in Your hands—not recklessly, but trustingly. Help me to be someone whose treasure is in heaven, whose heart reflects Your kingdom, and whose life demonstrates that You are indeed a Father worth trusting. In the name of Jesus, who showed me the ultimate treasure of Your love, Amen.
